Dark chocolate reduces pressure

The use of products rich in cocoa products reduced the level of blood pressure. This effect was achieved due to the content of substances that are called polyphenols.

According to German scientists, to lower the level of blood pressure people should eat more dark chocolate and drink less tea.

When analyzing several previous studies that related to the benefits of chocolate and tea, the researchers found that eating darker grades of chocolate could lower the blood pressure level as much as it was achieved by taking medications.

The published data contained the results of 10 studies on the effect of cocoa products involving more than 173 people and five tea studies, in which 343 people took part.

For four weeks, the drop in blood pressure caused by the use of cocoa products, reduced the risk of stroke and heart attack by 10-20%.

According to the organizer of the study, Dr.

Dirk Taubert, from Cologne, this effect is due to the presence of cocoa specific nutrients, which are called polyphenols or flavonoids.

Tea is also rich in polyphenols, but of a different type, which leads to less hypotensive effect of tea than cocoa.
