Prostate cancer is less prone to a recurrent course if the patient has been treated by a doctor with extensive experience.

According to American researchers, doctors who have 250 or more prostatectomies on their account perform operations after which relapses occur much less frequently than after operations performed by their less experienced colleagues.

A study conducted by the New York Cancer Research Foundation, USA, analyzed 7,700 cases of prostate cancer.

In men who were treated by 72 American surgeons who practiced from 1987 to 2003, the number of relapses depended on the experience of the surgeon who performed the operation.

In patients with doctors who had no more than 10 operations on their account, relapse occurred more often than in patients of their more experienced colleagues.

The results of the study are published in the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
