World Health Organization released on Friday the world's first report on the impact of environmental pollution on children's bodies. The report also contains information on the varying degree of influence of pollution, depending on the age of the child.

The document entitled "Principles for the elimination of risks to children's health in connection with environmental pollution" reveals the fact that the children's organism is more sensitive than the adult organism, since it is not only physically smaller but also less mature.

Thus, the stage of development of the child's organism, on which the impact is no less, and sometimes more important, scientists believe.

The immaturity of the child's lung tissue causes damage to the mechanisms of lung protection and creates the prerequisites for the development of lung diseases later in life.

About a third of all childhood illnesses can be associated with environmental factors, scientists say, water and air pollution, pesticides falling into food, pigs in the soil, and many other factors can form diseases that will manifest themselves after many years.

According to the report, almost one in five children born in the poorest part of the Earth will not live to their fifth birthday, largely because of environmental factors.
