A new study conducted on animals, calls into question the generally accepted tactics of treating muscle damage, for example, with sports injuries, as reported by the Internet publication for girls and women from 14 to 35 years old Pannochka. Net An experiment conducted by scientists from the Cleveland Clinic (Ohio, USA), for the first time clearly showed that inflammation promotes the restoration of damaged muscles. With muscle damage, it is customary to prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs, since it is believed that they accelerate recovery. The new data may change this tactic in the treatment of muscle damage caused by trauma, chemicals or medications (which can cause muscle damage as a side effect).

"We hope that our data will help in the future better understand the role played by inflammation in the healing process, so that doctors can use the positive side of inflammation and control the negative sides," says Lan Zhou, the study's lead author.

Lan Zhou and his colleagues found that in the presence of inflammatory cells (macrophages), damaged muscle tissue produces a large amount of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), which significantly accelerates the healing. For the experiment, scientists used two groups of mice. In the first group, the genes were changed in such a way that, in response to damage, they did not have inflammation. In the second group were the usual mice. Mice from each group were injected with barium chloride to damage the muscle tissue.

In the mice from the first group, the muscles did not recover, whereas in the second group the damage healed.

Further analysis showed that in mice from the second group to fast healing resulted a high level of IGF-1, which isolated macrophages in the damaged muscle tissue.

"To learn how to quickly heal tissue damage, we must learn to control inflammation, so that it is neither excessive nor insufficient," says Lan Zhou.
