Employees of the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the successful use in several countries of a polio vaccine, which, according to experts, reduces the risk of morbidity by more than 90%, according to the Internet publication for girls and women from 14 to 35 years Pannochka. Net New vaccines are already used in Afghanistan, India and Nigeria. According to the medical journal Lancet, they are much better than the former protect children from the polio virus, which affects the spinal cord and causes paralysis.

The creators of the new vaccine hope that, thanks to their invention and ongoing work on its improvement, one day it will be possible to completely overcome the dangerous virus.

End of suffering?.

Thanks to mass immunization campaigns, the list of countries affected by outbreaks of poliomyelitis declined from 125 in 1988 to four in 2009. During the same period, the number of reported cases decreased from 350 thousand to 1606.

However, cases of the disease are noted in those countries that previously declared their victory over poliomyelitis. For example, in May, for the first time since 1997, poliomyelitis was detected in Russia. The Russian authorities announced then that two cases of the disease were noted in infants brought from Tajikistan.

The causative agent (poliovirus hominis) exists in the form of three independent types (I, II and III). Until now, the most common vaccine has been targeted at all three types.

The last case of poliomyelitis of type II was noted in 1999 in India. Therefore, the new vaccine is designed to combat the viruses of the remaining types.

It is administered not intramuscularly and subcutaneously, as it was done in the XX century, but applied in the form of drops through the mouth.

A new inoculation was tested in India on 830 babies. Some of them received an old vaccine, and some of them received a new vaccine.. In both cases, each baby was vaccinated twice: immediately after birth and after 30 days. Before and after each procedure, they took a blood test for the content of antibodies that are produced by the immune system to fight the virus.
