Scientists have found that the use of marijuana affects the performance of adolescents in school and the motivation to continue studying at a university. Earlier, scientists stated that with regular use of cannabis in humans, the intellect decreases. Also this plant promotes the development of periodontitis. Employees of the University of Waterloo (Canada) were able to disclose yet another consequence, which may result from the use of marijuana. To do this, they studied the results of a project called COMPASS, in which scientists and representatives of social services in the period from 2012 to 2016 watched thousands of high school students who studied at 90 different institutions.
After the analysis, the researchers found that high-school students who used marijuana at least once a month were four times more likely to miss school hours. Also, they twice as often did not do their homework. Teens were falling in school. In addition, it was found that due to the use of marijuana, young people were being less motivated to continue their studies at universities. It is worth noting that while scientists do not know what is the reason for this effect of marijuana on students. In this regard, they will continue to conduct research in this area.
