The increase in collagen content for a long time was the goal of many cosmetic manufacturers who manufacture anti-aging cream. Now scientists have found out how the ingredient of anti-wrinkle products is able to stimulate the natural production of collagen, providing the skin with elasticity, writes New Scientist.
To understand the mechanism of the miracle compound work under the name Matrixyl, Jan Hamley from the University of Reading in the UK checked the nanoscale compositions of his long carbon network and peptides consisting of five amino acids attached to a single end.
Similar compounds containing peptides, but consisting of a smaller number of amino acids, form cylindrical structures with long chains directed inwards and peptides directed outwards.
Meanwhile, for matrixyl, the number of similar cylindrical structures is covered by flat "nanoclaves" in which the molecules are lined up in two layers. Here, all the peptides are located in the upper and lower parts of the "nanolent".
According to Hamley, a large, flat surface formed by "nanoscale" can promote the accumulation of collagen. This discovery can be used not only in cosmetology, but also in regenerative medicine in the treatment of injuries of tissues containing collagen, such as the eye and skin.
