Scientists have become one step closer to the creation of a functioning cardiac tissue in a laboratory for transplantation, the BBC.

Researchers have grown three types of human heart cells from embryonic stem cells. Then, the cells were transplanted into mice with heart diseases, after which the function of the heart was significantly improved in rodents. The study was published in the journal Nature.

Scientists have created cells, introducing molecules into embryonic stem cells that promote growth and development of cells. By introducing the right growth molecules at the right time, the researchers were able to create three types of immature cardiac cells.

According to Dr. Jeremy Pearson of the British Heart Organization, we are one step closer to the day when stem cells will be used to treat injuries after heart attacks.
