Vitamin D protects against progression of breast cancer

In patients with breast cancer and a reduced level of vitamin D in the body, the risk of cancer progression is significantly increased up to a lethal outcome compared with those women who have normal vitamin D levels, say scientists..

The researchers conducted a study in which 512 women participated, whose average age was 50 years. The study lasted for 12 years. It turned out that more than ? of women with breast cancer suffered from a vitamin D deficiency.

The researchers found that women with vitamin D deficiency and breast cancer are 94% more likely to develop cancer and 73% more likely to die from this disease.

According to Dr. Pamela Goodwin from the hospital in Toronto, although there is a clear correlation between the level of vitamin and the degree of the disease, but, perhaps, vitamin D is simply a marker of a healthy lifestyle. Also scientists remind that the received vitamin D at sunburn or with food is the basic factor of maintenance of bones strong, warning that development of an osteoporosis.
