A normal blood test can detect lung cancer at an early stage of its development, scientists from the clinic of Cologne (Germany).

The survival rate after lung cancer is approximately 15 percent. Lung cancer kills an average of 1.3 million people annually worldwide, as it is diagnosed, most often, in the late stages of the disease.

The results of the study were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

According to scientists presenting the study, there is a genetic profile of lung cancer in the blood that can be detected by a blood test with 88% accuracy.

A finger blood test is a suitable tool to determine the risk of lung cancer two years before the diagnosis of the disease, said Dr. Thomas Zander from the University of Cologne. Detection of cancer at an early stage of its development is the main task for effective treatment, the scientist.
