According to a study published in the British Medical Journal, daily walks not only help to lose excess weight, but also reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

The importance of regular physical activity for reducing body mass index (BMI) and reducing insulin resistance is shown in studies more than once, but this work for the first time demonstrated the long-term benefits of walking for health.

Scientists from the Pediatric Research Institute. Murdoch in Australia surveyed 592 adult middle-aged people. All participants were asked to complete questionnaires on nutrition and lifestyle. Each participant was given a pedometer - an instrument that measured the number of steps taken by the subject during the day.

The study lasted 5 years. It turned out that those participants who took place on the day more were below the BMI, the ratio of the circumference of the waist and the hip circumference is lower and the sensitivity to insulin is higher.

"These data serve as a confirmation that regular walks and high physical activity are useful for middle-aged people, regardless of other factors," the scientists conclude.
