An easy feeling of hunger makes a person happy. Scientists say that the hormone ghrelin, responsible for the feeling of hunger, which is experienced by the body, regulates the level of adrenaline (a stress hormone) in the blood. When we are hungry, the level of ghrelin rises, and it most likely acts as an antidepressant.
Scientists conducted an experiment in mice. It turned out that mice with a reduced level of the hormone ghrelin are depressed, and when they were thrown into the water, they did not even try to swim. Rodents did not reach the exit from the labyrinth and eschewed other mice placed in the same cage.
At the same time, mice with an elevated level of ghrelin were actively swimming in the water, they were pleased to explore the new environment and gravitate to communicate with other mice, scientists said.. The results of the study were published in a recent issue of the journal Nature Neuroscience.
Scientists have suggested that positive reactions to a sense of hunger are a protective reaction of the mammalian organism, which was supposed to get food in struggle and labor, and now it is enough to open a refrigerator.
