Reducing the calorie content of food by only 300-500 calories slows down the aging process and increases life expectancy, scientists say.
Scientists have conducted a study in mice and found that reducing the caloric intake of daily meals slows down the aging process. According to experts, this can be explained by the fact that a decrease in calories received per day in the body reduces the production of the hormone triiodothyronine, which leads to a slowing of the metabolism and, accordingly, the slowing down of tissue aging.
The researchers found that a person has a decrease in the production of this hormone with a regular rejection of sweet desserts, fatty turkeys, as well as Big Macs and French fries. The results of this study prove that limiting calories reduces the synthesis of triiodothyronine not only in animals but also in humans, says Dr. Edward Weiss. The next stage of the study was the study of changes in human tissues, depending on the amount of calories consumed.
Scientists divided the participants into two groups.
The first group reduced the calories in the daily menu by 300-500 calories, volunteers from the second group stayed on the same diet and regularly went in for sports. People in both groups significantly reduced body weight. In this case, the decrease in the thyroid hormone was noted only in the participants in the first group. And although the final results on aging are still unknown, experts believe that reducing caloric intake in food to 300-500 calories a day is a good idea.
