American scientists from the University of Washington have created software that allows deaf people to use a mobile phone.
So far, deaf people and people with hearing loss have been able to use mobile phones only for text messaging. The new system consists in using a video camera built into the phone for a full conversation, and the software allows two phones, whose deaf owners are explained in sign language, without delay transmitting a video signal.
According to the developers, not all deaf people will have the opportunity to use this system of conversation, since as yet in a small number of countries the prices of telephone companies are moderate for such a service. However, with the further development of telecommunications, "telephones for the deaf" can become a commonplace phenomenon.
Features of these devices are as follows: they must have a large screen that would fully show the face and upper body of the interlocutor; A high-resolution video camera with the ability to safely install at a distance from the owner.
