During pregnancy, women must eat fish to ensure the normal development of the fetus.

However, the question of mercury found in seafood and its impact on the child remains open. The Office of Food and Drug Administration advises women not to eat more than 340 grams or 12 ounces a week.

Recent studies have shown that pregnant eat little fish. Judy Meehan, head of the Organization of Healthy Mothers and the Infant Health Coalition, and other experts are concerned about these trends, since there is no other way to obtain the omega-3 fatty acids needed to develop the child's brain.

Another 2007 in Lancet noted that the lack of fish is harmful to the fetus. Mothers, eating three servings of fish a week, gave birth to children who showed good results of mental development.

In another study, Emily Oken of the Harvard Medical School examined the balance between the benefits and risks of fish consumption during pregnancy.

Her team interviewed 341 women about fish in the diet during the second trimester and checked the blood for the presence of mercury. The children of the participants at the age of three years passed several tests for the study of motor and mental skills. Eating fish twice a week, the future mother helps develop the child's brain. Even if a woman uses canned food.

In another study, Danish scientists analyzed data on 25,446 children. When you consume almost 400 grams of fish per week (14 ounces) the baby develops better by 30%.
