Vitamin, which is found in meat, fish and milk, can prevent memory loss in old age, scientists believe.

Researchers from the University of Oxford conducted a study in which they found out that people with a reduced level of vitamin B12 are six times as likely to have problems with the brain. The results of the study were published in a recent issue of the journal Neurology.

The study involved 107 healthy volunteers aged 61 to 87 years. They were followed for five years. On average, two out of five participants had low levels of vitamin B in their blood. Experts believe that the level of vitamin B12 depends on the diet.

In addition, the elderly were also noted for a shortage of folic acid (vitamin B9), which aggravated disorders in the brain.

As a result of a five-year study, it was found that vitamin B12 affects mental abilities, protects memory and slows the onset of dementia. Experts recommend that older people regularly replenish their vitamin B12 and folic acid reserves by eating rich foods (meat, fish, milk). Of course, this will not completely solve the problem, but it will help to fight age-related brain changes without medications.
