Workers exposed to welding aerosols have an increased risk of damage to the same area of ??the brain whose work is disturbed by Parkinson's disease. Such data were obtained in a new study by specialists from Washington University / USA /.

The fumes that are produced during welding contain manganese, an element associated with neurological problems, including symptoms similar to Parkinson's disease. Neurotoxic effect of these fumes negatively affects the health of the brains of welders.

The survey involved workers of a metal processing company without signs of nerve degenerative disorders. Each man on average had an experience of 30 thousand. Hours of welding work. Scientists have scanned the brain participants and tests of motor skills, also men were examined by neuropathologists.

The levels of manganese in the blood of welders were two times higher than the permissible limits. Also, welders experienced a 11.7 percent reduction in the marker of the hormone dopamine, which helps "communicate" nerve cells in the brain. Dopamine decreases in specific areas of the brain in people with Parkinson's disease. The observed changes in the brain of people dealing with welding work can serve as an early marker of neuronal death.
