Swedish experts have developed a method that allows using only the positive properties of estrogen in such a way that it affects only the skeleton. Recall: estrogen - a hormone that strengthens the bone mass in women. However, it plays an important role and to maintain the skeleton of men, reports The Times of India.

In principle, estrogen can be used to treat osteoporosis, but such therapy has serious side effects, including breast cancer and thrombus formation. Employees of the Salgren Academy at the University of Gothenburg solved this problem. They analyzed which parts of the estrogen receptor are most important in terms of estrogen activity with respect to bone and other tissue.

Estrogen has recipient molecules known as estrogen receptors. They allow the body to react to the hormone. An experiment with laboratory animals showed that working with different parts of a particular type of estrogen receptor allowed scientists to differentiate the beneficial effects of estrogen exerted on bone tissue and the side effects exerted on other tissues. This discovery gives hope for the creation of safe forms of hormone therapy.
