We found out what is, but, often, in scanty amounts. This is one of the modern manufacturers' tricks. And everything began more honestly.

Dinosaurs of soda The non-alcoholic beverage industry emerged at the end of the 18th century when carbonated carbonated waters appeared on sale (in France and England). Then it was considered an inexpensive imitation of medicinal mineral waters, and soda was sold in pharmacies, and not in ordinary stores.

Further expansion was provided by chemists: in 1784 citric acid (from lemon juice) was first isolated,. In 1833 in England, the first carbonated lemonades (the name of the lemonade drink - just comes from the word lemon "lemon") appeared on sale..

In 1871, there was a landmark event - the first time in the US (and in the world) was registered a brand of non-alcoholic beverage - it was called ... Coca-Cola? And here not! "Stunning Lemon's Ginger Ale" (Lemon's Superior Sparkling Ginger Ale).

In the future, the process of inventing new flavors and beverages became avalanche-like, and it was only in 1886 that Coca-Cola was first put on the market. Initially, Coca-Cola was made from the tincture of coca leaves and cola nuts, Dr John Pemberton, apothecary John Pemberton came up with a prescription for a syrup intended for the treatment of headaches and colds and guessed to dilute it with soda water. And in 1898 Pepsi-Cola appeared (according to some versions, it was originally a cure for intestinal disorders), which was invented by the chemist Caleb Bradham, a chemist who mixed extract from Cola Nuts, vanillin and aromatic oils.

Evolution of soda in the last century The 1950s marked the beginning of a new era - the emergence of "healthy" drinks. First, high-calorie and unacceptable for certain categories of patients, sugar began to be replaced with artificial sweeteners. In 1952, the first lemonade, intended for diabetics (in it saccharin replaced sugar) was released,. In 1962, sales of beverages were started, which were sweetened with cyclamates. Great chemistry has made a significant contribution to this business. In the 1980s, manufacturers began to massively use aspartame (produced under the brand Nutra-Sweet), and in the late 1990s - sucralose (sold under the brand name Splenda).

In 1960, a new class of beverages appeared - "sports". These drinks did not contain gas, in exchange they were saturated with vitamins and other substances that are supposed to help athletes quench their thirst and improve the results.

In the 1980s, beverages appeared that did not contain caffeine. Initially, this was done in order to attract certain groups of people who for various reasons could not use traditional caffeinated lemonades - for example, children, hypertensives or adherents of certain religious cults. At the same time, drinks were produced with a high content of caffeine - their creators expected to attract students, businessmen and all people who urgently needed to cheer up.

In the 1990s there appeared a logical continuation - "energy drinks", which contained horse doses of caffeine and other invigorating substances and were intended for visitors to discos and athletes.

At the end of the second millennium, companies launched low-calorie sodas. In many ways this step was explained by the enormous popularity of the diet, the essence of which is the refusal of carbohydrates.

New Age. Deceived hopes At the beginning of the new century, a new trend was emerging around the world: consumers began to pay more attention to juices and beverages on their basis. We can say that after juices in their pure form, juice drinks are the most "fashionable" drinks these days. And it's no wonder - now all over the world people want to be so healthy that they are ready to believe in everything that the producers promise them. And if on the soda label there is an inscription "With juice" this acts hypnotically - we believe that this is so. And in fact? And in fact, everything, as usual, beginning with the fact that we ourselves are to blame for such "harmless jokes" producers. After all, we do not even bother to read the composition of the drink. Yes, the composition is written in the smallest font on the back of the label, and the inscription "With juice" is the largest font on the front, and, accordingly, it seems that it is not worthwhile to lose time reading small print, but, nevertheless, let's finish charity work For producers, let's read the composition. But, as it turned out, in practice it would not be of much use - after careful consideration of the labeling of juice-containing drinks, we found that the producers write in the "juice of yak", but how many there are 50%, 10%, or 1% - this is modestly hushed up. Not an exception was a drink from one of the pioneers of the market - Coca Cola - "FruitTime with apple juice". Have to check in the lab.

For a correct comparison, we chose one type of juice-containing beverages - these are beverages with the declared juice component, namely apple juice. Manufacturers producing drinks with apple juice were only five. They are manufacturers of brands "Fruk Time", "Riviera", "Caprizon", "Caravan Delicious", "Zhivchik". How to determine the apple juice in a juice drink? The answer is obvious: it is necessary to determine the content of one of the elements inherent in this fruit. What is famous for an apple? Of course, iron. Apple juice contains from 3 to 10 milligrams of iron per 1 liter. But iron is and just in the water. How many? From 0 to 0.3 mg per liter. Determine the iron? No, because the juice drink is still a drink with a juice content, not 100% juice, so if you hypothetically assume that there is 10% juice in the drink, then we can get how much iron? Yes, all the same 0.3 mg, which can already be in the water. Need another item. And this is potassium. It is known that water can contain potassium from 0 to 20 milligrams per liter. Apple juice - from 1000 to 2500 milligrams per liter. Accordingly, 10% of the juice in the beverage must contain at least 100 milligrams of potassium, 1% - 10 mg of potassium. This despite the fact that the water used to make this drink did not contain potassium at all. So, we determine potassium. The results are as follows:.

Fruit Time. With apple juice, 30 mg / l potassium is 1% -3% juice;.

"Caravan". Delicious.

With apple juice 35 mg / l potassium - is 1.5% -3.5% juice;.

"Zinger". With apple juice, 65 mg / L potassium is 4.5% -6.5% juice;.

"Riviera". With apple juice 170 mg / l potassium - is 15% -17% juice;.

Caprizon. With apple juice 310 mg / l potassium - is 29% -31% of juice.

What can I say about this? Okay, Coca-Cola FruitTime, but from the extremely popular "Zhivchik" we expected more!.

Public organization "Expert".
