Scientists from the Peninsula School of Medicine in Plymouth (UK) have developed a method for measuring insulin levels in the urine. Since people can perform this test at home, with its introduction into practice, the need to consult a doctor for a blood test will be reduced.

According to the test results, it is possible to find out whether the organism of a patient with type 1 or type 2 diabetes carries their own insulin, regardless of whether he receives insulin from outside.

In addition, with the help of this test, it is possible to diagnose rare, genetic, forms of diabetes mellitus, which will increase the detectability of the disease.

"We hope that the test will quickly go into clinical practice, which means that more patients will be able to be diagnosed correctly and prescribe the appropriate treatment," says Rachel Besser.

According to a 3-year study conducted by the US Centers for Disease Control among patients with type 2 diabetes, weight loss and increased physical activity slowed the progression of the disease by 58% in all patients, regardless of ethnicity.
