According to a new study conducted by the staff of the Ikanska Medical School, the multiple impact of anesthesia in infancy leads to a deterioration in visual memory. Deterioration is observed after the first year of life and persists for a long time, writes Zee News.

Scientists have conducted a study on rhesus monkeys.

The brain of six-week-old rhesus monkeys is similar to the brain of children aged 6-12 months. The experimental animals were exposed to a common anesthetic. Researchers found that anesthesia adversely affected the visual memory of macaques. Experts emphasize that animals did not have diseases requiring surgery, and they did not experience stress due to illness. This suggests that memory impairment was caused precisely by anesthesia.
