Insufficient intake of vitamins A and C can increase the risk of asthma, British scientists say.

A team of scientists from the University of Nottingham studied the results of 40 studies performed over the past 30 years. Experts have found that people who consume insufficient amounts of vitamin C are 12% more likely to develop asthma. The study was published in Thorax journal.

With regard to low intake of vitamin A, the risk of asthma was less obvious, but there was still a significant correlation.

Further research is needed on the effects of vitamins A and C on the risk of asthma, which affects the health of 5 million people only in the UK, say researchers.

According to scientists, the results of the study show that low intake of vitamins A and C is to some extent associated with the risk of asthma, which gives grounds for the use of these data in clinical practice. The purpose of the next study will be to find out whether there is a direct link between vitamin intake and asthma,.
