Children who slowly developed in utero, and then quickly "catch up" in weight during the first weeks of life are susceptible to lung diseases.

Scientists examined the function of the lungs in 131 children aged five to fourteen weeks and compared it with the rate at which they gained weight. The more rapidly the weight of children born with a small body weight, the worse was their respiratory function.

According to Professor John Warner, respiratory disturbances further predispose to many diseases of the respiratory system (especially bronchial asthma). This once again confirms that the foundation of our future health is laid in utero.
