The beta-blocker drugs used to treat hypertension can also slow down the development of certain types of tumors.
Researchers from Denmark analyzed case histories of patients with skin cancer (melanoma) and found that patients who took beta-blockers were less likely to die from cancer than those who did not take such drugs.
Survival of such patients within a certain period increased by 13%. When, in the analysis, not only melanoma was taken into account, but also other causes of death of patients, the survival rate of the recipients of the medicine increased by 19%.
A study report appeared in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.
