British scientists have been found two key genes, which are responsible for the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease, writes the Air Force.
Researchers studied 16,000 genetic samples, which allowed them to understand in more detail the causes of the onset of the disease. It was possible to identify two genes that participated in the violation of cholesterol in the body. The study was published in Nature Genetics.
The genes discovered by the British have a protective effect on the brain functions, however, any changes can lead to the disappearance of the protective function and even, conversely, to the attack of brain cells.
According to scientists, the causes for dementia are complex, which include the presence of certain genes, lifestyle and the presence of certain events (for example, the occurrence of concomitant diseases - atherosclerosis, etc.. ) in life.
Along with the discovery by British scientists of two CLU and PICALM genes, a team of French specialists found the third gene CR1, which influenced the onset of Alzheimer's disease. Given all the new discoveries, researchers hope to create drugs for effective treatment and the development of new diagnostic methods.
