The composition of green tea includes many healthy components, including antioxidants. A recent study showed that, among other things, green tea can slow down excess weight gain.

Most types of green tea contains epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) - a substance that scientists from the state of Pennsylvania. To test its effect on excess weight, the researchers divided the laboratory mice into two groups: both groups received food rich in fat, while one group was added to EGCG food, the other group was not.

It turned out that the mice from the first group gained weight 45% slower than the mice from the second group. Additional tests confirmed that in animals that received EGCG, fewer fats ingested with food were absorbed.

"There can be two conclusions from this," says Joshua Lambert, associate professor of food science. - First, EGCG reduces the absorption of fats, and secondly - it increases the ability to use fats ". At the same time, EGCG does not affect the appetite of the subjects in any way.

To get the amount of EGCG we gave to mice in the experiment, a person should drink 10 cups of green tea a day, explains Lambert, but even a few cups, he said, can already bring certain benefits.
