A study in the Netherlands showed that in women who underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF) (the risk of developing ovarian cancer is twice as high as in the control group.

Doctors compared the data of 19 thousand women who at least once in their life underwent an IVF procedure with 6 thousand infertile women who did not undergo such a procedure.

Of all the 25,000 women, 77 developed malignant tumors in the ovaries.

The risk of such a disease is considered extremely low, but the scientists noticed a pronounced trend - those women who underwent IVF and associated with the procedure of taking hormonal drugs, the risk of getting much higher. Out of 77 patients, 66 were IVF.

Scientists also were surprised to find that the risk of getting sick does not depend on the number of IVF procedures that a woman has undergone. Explanations for this have not yet been found, and the phenomenon requires further study.
