Simply by not watching TV at a certain time, it is much more effective to struggle with excess weight, even if you do not change the diet and do not do heavy physical exercises, according to American scientists.
James Crouse, a 52-year-old mathematics teacher retired from Essex Junction in Vermont, watched TV for 25 to 26 hours a week until he was asked to take part in a study that required him to cut TV viewing time by half. Crouse found that during this period of forced viewing restriction, he managed to burn a lot more calories than usual, and not at all with the help of heavy physical exercises (although, as noted by Crouse, he also began to run more). Most of the time he spent was spent reading and working on the computer.
Crouse was one of the 36 participants in the study. The purpose of the research work was to find out how refusal to watch TV affects the way of life of a person. As a result, on average, the participants burned 120 calories a day more, and the time spent watching TV was half as much as usual. The study was published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine.
The conclusion from this study is that the less TV we watch, the more we burn calories - it is unlikely that anyone will surprise, but now in the hands of doctors there is another tool that will help to stop the wave of the epidemic of excess weight and obesity. After all, in three weeks of participation in the study, scientists noted a significant change in the body mass index in most of its participants. Now doctors face a new challenge: to give people motivation to change their way of life.
