For the emergence of symptoms of allergy meet many different biochemical reactions and substances, to which American scientists added one more - a protein with the code name TSLP. This discovery can help in the search for medications for asthma, eczema and food allergies.

Researchers explain that a serious allergic reaction does not just cause unpleasant symptoms like redness, watery eyes and a runny nose - it can also threaten a person's life, causing a so-called anaphylactic shock with swelling of the throat and cardiopulmonary insufficiency.

Scientists from the University of Texas, as well as the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, have found out that it is the TSLP protein that triggers a long sequence of events leading to the development of an allergic reaction. This protein produces so-called dendritic cells. Then he goes to the T-lymphocytes.

Under its influence, T-lymphocytes are transformed into cells of another type (Th2-helpers) and begin to actively release substances that cause changes in tissues, including swelling with redness.

If this protein can be blocked in any way, it will prevent the development of allergies. True, how to do it, scientists have not yet reported. In addition, it is highly desirable that the drug interacts only with a specific protein associated with the development of the allergic process and does not enter into reactions, for example, with receptors on the surface of the cells of the heart muscle.
