Successful and timely treatment of gum disease reduces the risk of premature birth in pregnant women, according to US researchers.

160 pregnant women participated in the study. All participants in the study had gum disease and all were treated. As a result, a third of them were successfully cured. Then the experts compared the terms on which women gave birth.

As a result, it was possible to establish a close relationship between the successful treatment of gums and the full term of gestation. Women with successfully cured gums were three times more likely to give birth on time.

Inflammation of the gums promotes the development of infections and carries a potential danger to the fetus, including affecting the duration of pregnancy, which leads to the birth of the child before 35 weeks of pregnancy, scientists explained.

According to experts, the health of gums and teeth is very important for both the mother and the future child. Scientists advise very carefully monitor the health of the oral cavity of women, especially during pregnancy. Research work was presented at the annual conference of the American Association for Dental Research.
