Scientists from Argentina found that the radiation of wireless networks worsen the quality of sperm, reports NY Daily News. The study was conducted by a team of specialists led by Conrado Avendano (Conrado Avendano) from the Center for Reproductive Medicine in Cordoba. A report on their work is published in the journal Fertility and Sterility.
The study involved three dozen volunteers. Avenando and his colleagues collected two samples of sperm from each participant. Half of the semen for four hours was in the immediate vicinity of the laptop connected to the network via Wi-Fi. Control samples of seminal fluid were contained under similar conditions outside the coverage of wireless networks.
At the end of the experiment, the motility of the spermatozoa in the test samples decreased by a quarter in comparison with the initial state. Nine percent of these cells were damaged by DNA.
In the control group, there was a decrease in mobility of 14 percent of spermatozoa, and DNA damage was observed in only 3 percent of the cells. At the same time, there were no significant differences in the number of dead spermatozoa in the two groups of samples.
According to the authors of the work, the results of the study confirm the negative effect of electromagnetic radiation from wireless networks on the quality of sperm. In this regard, Avenando recommended that men keep Wi-Fi-connected devices away from the genitals.
