Gynecologists from Sweden, having studied more than 300 patients in Asian countries, where female circumcision is performed most often, concluded that such an operation leads to infertility 5 to 6 times more than women who were not exposed to it. Every year more than 30 countries circumcise 2 million girls and in consequence, after puberty, they can not become pregnant.

This pattern does not depend on the scale of the tissue excised in girls - although there are a lot of circumcision options, up to the complete removal of the clitoris and small labia. According to the human rights organization Amnesty International, 135 million women have been subjected to this procedure in the world.

Being a tradition, a ceremony of initiation into women, circumcision, among others, aims to reduce the sexual desire of a woman to preserve her reproductive functions. However, researchers from Karolinska Institutet under the guidance of Dr. Lars Almrota have shown that the opposite effect is achieved.

For example, in Sudan 90% of women were circumcised, and the earliest age when they underwent this procedure was 4 years and the average age 7 years. Most of these women were infertile. The reason for this is the use of ill-prepared instruments, which were used to perform operations, that is, insufficient sterilization, which subsequently led to the development of various diseases of the genitourinary sphere: infections, inflammations, scarring and adhesions. Also neglect in treatment, and as a consequence - infertility.
