Wearing earrings on the lips adversely affects the health of teeth, US researchers reported.

Scientists conducted a study in which 58 volunteers with piercing on the lips took part. It turned out that the incidence of atrophic and inflammatory phenomena in the gums is twice as high in those who are keen on piercing compared to those who do not wear it. The duration of wearing the piercing also affects the condition of the gums and teeth.

Researchers explain that the metal elements of the piercing constantly affect both the gum and the neck of the tooth, causing the gum to descend, and the tooth to loosen.

But the occurrence of these complications is possible only with prolonged wearing of the ring in the lip. If the metal earring is removed at night and constantly monitor oral hygiene, the risk of the occurrence of diseases is significantly reduced.
