The American found out that the cure for alopecia causes a persistent decline in libido regardless of the duration of admission, according to Medical News Today. The results of a study conducted by Michael Irving (Michael S. Irwig) from the University of George Washington, published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine.

To participate in the study, Irvig selected 54 volunteers who took Finasteride ("Propecia") for alopecia. All participants had sexual desire disorders caused by taking the drug. The scientist compared the health status of men at the beginning of the study and after 9-16 months. On average, the interval between examinations was 14 months.

According to the results of work, during the repeated examination, the negative side effects of finasteride related to sex were recorded in 96% of participants. However, the violations found in 89 percent of men met the criteria for sexual dysfunction according to the Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale).

In addition, the scores for a particular man did not depend on the duration of the finasteride. Irvig noted that the majority of participants in the study showed a persistent decline in sexual function, despite the cessation of therapy for baldness.

In previous studies, scientists from Argentina found that every 80th man who takes Finasteride for alopecia suffers from impotence. For most patients, erectile dysfunction does not cause a desire to interrupt treatment.
