A new method for diagnosing arrhythmia based on scanning an electromechanical wave was developed, experts of the Columbia Engineering School.

Early methods were based on measuring the electrical activity of the heart with electrode contacts. A method based on remote measurements through mathematical modeling is also used. Scientists reported that they were able to develop a method that directly and without blood will determine the nature of the heart.

It can be implemented in most modern ultrasound scanners that are used in clinics and hospitals, say researchers.

Experts said that this is the first non-contact method for determining the electrical activity of the heart. The method will make it possible to treat arrythmia more effectively, they believe.

Arrhythmia is the leading cause of death and disability of people around the world. This disease is associated with a violation of cardiac conduction.
