Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Mechanics at the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced the development of the ZKZM-500 laser gun, writes South China Morning Post. The developers classify the weapon as a non-lethal class, and its damaging radius will exceed 800 meters.
The radiation from ZKZM-500 will lead to charring of the outer layer of the skin and even will be able to set fire to clothes on the enemy.
Despite this, Chinese scientists have so far claimed that they will not develop lethal laser weapons. At the same time, weapons can burn on the walls of fuel tanks and set fire to fuel.
The weight of the gun will be about three kilograms. Other details and technical characteristics of ZKZM-500 are not disclosed yet. It is known that the device is already ready for mass production and will enter the market in the near future. The first samples of new weapons will be counter-terrorist Chinese units.
