A tiny clay fragment of only 1 cm in size, retaining an impression of the seal with words that can be understood as "Isaiah the prophet", was found in East Jerusalem between the Temple Mount and the City of David.

The artifact was found back in 2009, along with an impression of the seal of King Hezekiah at a distance of three meters, reports Live Science.

The Prophet Isaiah lived in the 8th. before. In 701, Jerusalem besieged the Assyrian army. King Hezekiah followed the advice of the prophet Isaiah and did not surrender the city. The Bible says that the "angel of the Lord" destroyed the army of the Assyrians (however, the ancient records of the Assyrians testify to the huge tribute paid by King Hezekiah).

Dr.

Eilat Mazar of the Institute of Archeology of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, who led the excavations, suggests that the inscription on the seal may be the earliest material evidence of a biblical prophet.

It can be read as "Yesha? Yah [u] NVY". The first word is the name "Isaiah", which in the translation from Hebrew means "the Lord saves". The second may mean "prophet": this word is written with the letter "Aleph" at the end, but in the Bible it sometimes occurs without it, as on the print. Thus, the print can be the first archaeological and earliest non-biblical testimony of the prophet Isaiah.
