A resident of Los Angeles sued Apple after the company said it reduced the performance of the old iPhone without the consent of users. The plaintiff demands compensation and termination of this practice, writes 9to5mac.

According to the owner of the iPhone 7 Stefan Bodganovich, the performance of older smartphones is declining for corporate profits and the growth in the number of buyers of new models. This function was introduced secretly from customers, says Bodganovich.

The claim does not take into account the fact that over time lithium-ion batteries wear out, which under certain conditions leads to the device shutdown, providing protection to electronic components. After Bodganovich, five residents of Chicago also sued Apple in court with similar claims.

According to Apple's official statement, the feature smoothes out sudden performance peaks to prevent spontaneous disconnection of smartphones. It was added to the iPhone 7 with iOS 11. 2 and in other devices of the company.

For the first time, the Reddit user under the nickname TeckFire drew attention to the problem in the beginning of December. According to him, when the wear of the iPhone 6s battery was 20 percent, it strongly affected the speed of the device. He suggested that the system artificially lowers the maximum processor clock speed.
