In 2006 there was an ominous concept - the syndrome of destruction of bee colonies. Scientists, beekeepers and ecologists scared the mass exodus of bees from hives. Statistical studies 11 years later showed that there is nothing to fear.

The panic that engulfed the scientific community in 2006 caused many beekeepers to predict "bee apocalypse". The disappearance of bees could cause serious damage to the production of honey and the ecosystem, primarily the population of polluted plants.

Despite all the predictions, recent statistical studies have shown that since 2008, the colonies of bees are actually growing. In April 2017, the state of the colonies in the United States was at the highest level for the first time in 23 years.

A positive trend can be traced all over the world, My Planet reports with reference to Live Science.

Of course, this does not mean that bees do not face difficulties. Domesticated bees live a little easier than wild ones, of which about 20,000 species. They are threatened not by the "bee apocalypse", but by the Varroa destructor. This mite destroys the hives, causing the disease in the bees varroatosis.

Another factor that beekeepers should avoid for the sake of preserving their bees are pesticides.

Many laboratory studies show that chemical agents harm bees, but in places this harm is not always evident, so it is difficult to prove it. Although it is known that insecticides of neonicotinoids make bees susceptible to parasites.

Wild bee species are also threatened with the destruction of their habitats due to the development of industry and agriculture.

Bees, like many other fauna, face a volatile world. However, experts warn, the apocalypse here does not smell. The only thing that is required of humanity is attention to the environment.
