The European Space Agency (ESA) said that unburned fragments of the Chinese spacecraft Tiangong-1 may fall on the territory of the EU.
The Office plans to organize monitoring of the descent of the device, informs lenta. ru "Due to the geometry of the station's orbit, we can already exclude the possibility that any fragments [Tiangong-1] will fall over any region north of 43 degrees north latitude or south 43 degrees south latitude," said the head of the space debris monitoring department of ESA Holger Krag.
To the south of 43 degrees north latitude there are, in particular, such European countries as Spain, Portugal, Italy, Bulgaria and Greece. "This means that the ship will fall anywhere between these latitudes, for example, in several European countries," the scientist believes..
The official statement of ESA notes that the date, time and trajectories of the fall of fragments of Tiangong-1 can be predicted "only with great uncertainty".
It is noted that there is a possibility that some parts of the apparatus will reach the surface of the planet.
Tiangong-1 reaches a length of 12 meters, and in diameter - 3.3 meters. The starting mass of the device was 8506 kilograms. According to ESA, China has lost contact with Tiangong-1 since 2016. At present, the ship is in orbit about 300 kilometers high. It will decline from January to March 2018, when Tiangong-1 is scheduled to enter the dense atmosphere.
