In the bay of the occupied Sevastopol mussels ceased breeding - for the first time in a long time. This is reported Crimea. Realities.

Doctor of Biological Sciences, member of the Institute of Biology of Southern Seas named after A.. Kovalevsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Nina Shurova declares that the mussels are killed by the anomalous Crimean heat.

"Most of the mussels were affected by high temperatures in the Crimea. At 20 degrees in the sea, these organisms already stop filtering water and die. The water becomes more turbid, the sun's rays do not penetrate to the depth and do not feed the algae that produce oxygen. So mussels are not only food for fish, but also natural cleaners of the sea. The areas freed from them can be occupied by more thermophilic mollusks, but without similar qualities, "said Shurova.

The owner of the oyster farm in the village of Katsiveli, Sergei Kulik, suggests that in the extinction of mussels,.

"Indeed, in the past and this year we are seeing an abnormally high water temperature. Mollusks are bred at depth, far from the shore, and usually at 14 meters under water there is a thermocline - that is, the water temperature can be 25 degrees from above, and below this mark at once 16 degrees. Just the other day I checked - even at a depth of 18 meters the water is warmed to 24 degrees. However, from this my clams do not perish. I think that the reduction in the population of mussels was affected by uncontrolled catch and direct sewage with detergents. As you know, in the Crimea for a long time a very bad situation with sewage treatment plants - the drain goes directly to the sea, "said Kulik.

July 12, it was reported that dolphins in the Black Sea near the coast of the Crimea can die because of the construction of the Kerch bridge and military exercises of Russian invaders on the peninsula.

Russia occupied the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in 2014 year.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine officially declared February 20, 2014 the beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia. Key international organizations, including the UN General Assembly, condemned Russia's actions and called the annexation and occupation of the Crimea illegal. Against the Russian Federation, economic sanctions were introduced. For holding Moscow's so-called elections with Crimea's participation in 2016, the Ukrainian parliament declared the State Duma illegitimate.
