Company Mercedes has received a patent for external airbags for pedestrians.

The devices will be installed on the front pillars of the car, NV reports with reference to Motor1 The invention of Mercedes-Benz is a two airbags built into the windshield racks. One end is attached to the top of the rack, and the other end to the edge of the hood.

It is noted that such pillows are a way of reducing harm for pedestrians when they collide with a car. They will work together with the already used system of raising the hood, which is also designed to mitigate the consequences of accidents.

We add that the company Mercedes filed an application for this patent in July 2015, but the Bureau of US Patents and Trademarks published it only on August 3, 2017. Thus, there is a great chance that the technology will soon appear on production cars.
