US President Donald Trump hopes that the first Americans will go to Mars until the end of his presidential term, which expires in 2021. He stated this in a telephone conversation with the ISS crew.

"When do you think we'll send people to Mars? Is there a schedule and when will this happen?" Asked the president of the ISS crew commander Peggy Whitson with a grin. NASA conducted a live broadcast of the conversation between the president and American astronauts Whitson and Jack Fisher.

Answering the question of the head of state, Whitson recalled that his budget for the current year assumes that the flight to Mars will be possible in the 2030s.

"Well, we want to try to do this until the end of my presidential term, in the worst case - the second (presidential term). We will need to accelerate, "said Trump.

"I hope that we will do this faster than we plan," the US president said..

Whitson laughed and promised the president to try and assured her that she was ready and would be happy to go to the Red Planet. Meanwhile, according to her, this requires serious funding and international cooperation.
