Russia's first racket Daniil Medvedev (No. 6ATP) was at the center of a scandal at the Australian Open.. In the second round of the Australian Open, the 28-year-old Muscovite, playing under a neutral flag, sensationally lost to 19-year-old Leoner Thien from the USA, ranked 121st in the world ranking. During the match, Medvedev not only threw his racket, but also allowed himself obscene statements addressed to the fans.

Losing in the first set with a score of 3:5, 0:40, Medvedev shouted at an unknown person in Russian: “You will suck me,” after which someone from the Russian team supported this phrase with a loud cry: “That’s right.”!

The Russian's rudeness did not help - he lost in a five-set thriller with a score of 3:2, although in the fourth set his opponent ran out of strength, and it seemed that the experienced Medvedev would take the match.

This was Tien's first victory over such a highly rated opponent.. The young tennis player, born to Vietnamese immigrants in California, played confidently against the Russian, demonstrating mature technique and ability to work under pressure.

The defeat was not only an early departure from the tournament for Medvedev, but also a blow to his position in the ATP rankings - the Russian will leave the top 5 for the first time since 2018.

After this, Marta criticized international organizations in her sport for allowing Russian athletes to participate in tournaments. Our compatriot also expressed a categorical position regarding representatives of the Russian Federation, noting that she would never shake their hand again.
