PSV have not yet officially lost their medals, but after the incredible match against FC Utrecht the team actually guaranteed their 27th national title. The game ended with a score of 4:3 to the guests' advantage, and the final goal was scored just in the fifth half of injury time.
The game began not to the advantage of the league leaders: already in the third half of Baer’s loan, the Ukrainian Artem Stepanov made a perfect shot at the PSV goal, opening the rakhunok. Meanwhile, the Eindhoven Swedes got ready and began to attack, creating chances through Ismael Saybari and Ivan Perisic.
Less than fifteen years later, Utrecht was re-established – Givay Zechiel was soon overcome by the weak defense of PSV and the warlords’ superiority. In the 37th round, PSV scored a goal: Saibari beat the right guard and shot past the goalkeeper, shortening the score to 1:2.
The second half was even more effective: three minutes later Saibari made a goal, and three minutes later Ismael gave an assist to Guus Tiel, who put PSV ahead – 3:2. The intense battle continued until the 81st round, when Utrecht reserves Sebastian Haller and Esper Carlsson again tied the game – 3:3.
PSV's winning goal was scored by Kuhayb Drues in the fifth half of injury time, ensuring the team's championship was guaranteed.
Since Feyenoord won't beat Volendam in a week, PSV will celebrate becoming the champion of the Netherlands for the 27th time.
The match was also marked by an unacceptable outcome: PSV captain Jerdi Schouten put his knee in the match with Yoann Catline and was in danger of losing the field on the burdens. The injury looks serious, which makes it unimportant that the 29-ranked playmaker will participate in the World Championship in two months.
