UEFA paid Russian football clubs over 10.8 million euros in the framework of the so -called solidarity payments since the beginning of the full -scale invasion of Russia in Ukraine in February 2022.
These funds from the European Football Union are intended for teams not participating in European competitions in order to promote competitive balance in national championships.
According to The Guardian, payments for representatives of the aggressor country continued since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, despite the removal of all Russian clubs and teams from participation in international competitions.
According to the publication, in the 2022/23 season, the Russian Football Union received 3.305 million euros from UEFA, 3.381 million in 2023/24, and in 2024/25 - 4.224 million. In the season 2021/22 this amount amounted to 6.209 million euros. The local football federation is obliged to distribute these funds between their clubs.
At the same time, five Ukrainian clubs on July 27 turned to UEFA President Alexander Cheferin with a complaint about the delay in similar solidarity payments for the seasons 2023/24 and 2024/25.
