May 28, 2003 at Old Trafford held an Italian derby in the Champions League final.
Andriy Shevchenko only once won the Champions League, despite two more participation in the final of this tournament. Four years after moving from Dynamo to San Siro, the forward became the first Ukrainian to play in the finals of the most prestigious European club tournament.
Having defeated his principal rival Inter in the semi-finals of the Champions League, Milan was preparing to meet at Juventus at Old Trafford in Manchester. Shevchenko, or as he was then called the local tiffozi “Devil from the East”, was one of the main stars of the upcoming match.
The teams were unable to print each other’s gates neither in the main nor in the compensated time, and therefore the match smoothly flowed into the penalty shootout.
In the penalty shoot-out, goalkeepers of both teams demonstrated high skill - Milan's Dida repelled strikes by Trezeguet, Salaeta and Montero, and his Turin counterpart Gianluigi Buffon did not allow himself to beat Seedorf and Kaladze.
The decisive 11-meter was realized by Andriy Shevchenko, who brought Milan the sixth title of the strongest club in Europe and became the first Ukrainian to whom this achievement was subdued.
