There is a proposal to divide between Genoa and Lazio the title of Italian champion of the 1914/1915 season, interrupted due to the outbreak of the First World War.

The 2014/15 Italian Championship was suspended due to the outbreak of the First World War, and was not played out, but for more than a hundred years on the Apennines it was believed that the Italian Football Federation awarded the Genoa title. However, now doubts have arisen in this - reports Corriere dello Sport.

The fact is that in those days the Italian championship was held in three geographical zones: North, Center and South, and the title went to the winner of the match between the best team of the North and the combined champion of the South and Center. The Championship of the North was won by Genoa, the South and the Center - Lazio, but they did not play among themselves.

Since in those days the representatives of the northern part of Italy were head and shoulders stronger than the southerners (in the 1913/14 season, Casale defeated the same Lazio in the final with a total score of 9: 1 in the sum of two matches), no one doubted that Genoa.

However, lawyer Gian Piero Mignoni, who studies the archives of the Italian Federation, could not find a solution anywhere that the Scudetto officially awarded Genoa, only the fact that Genoa was the champion of the North.

Therefore, from a legal point of view, it is logical either to not declare a national champion in general 1914/15 and deprive the “griffins” of one of their nine titles, or to make the champion “tandem”, adding Lazio the third “scudetto”.

However, in the light of the current situation in the football sector in Italy in connection with the coronavirus pandemic, the 105-year-old incident will not be discussed soon.
