The Football Federation of Iceland formally introduced the new head coach of the national team of the country and his assistant.
Swede Eric Hamren will lead the team of Iceland in the next six years. At his appointment, 61-year-old Khamren voiced the task before him: to obtain permits in the final tournaments of Euro 2020, FM-2022 and Euro-2024. During his 31-year-old coaching career, Hamren worked with Encheping, Viasby, Brommapoikarnoy, Vasalunds, Degerfors, AIK, Ergrute, Oljuorg, Rosenborg and Sweden. Twice he won the Swedish Cup with AIC and once with Ergrute. He led Aalborg to the title of champion of Denmark and twice became the champion of Norway with Rosenborg. Had deduced the national team of Sweden in the finals of Euro-2012 and Euro-2016.
The right hand of Hamren will be 35-year-old Freire Aleksandersson - the head coach of the Icelandic women's team, who will help the men's team, continuing to fulfill their duties in the women's national team. During the 2018 World Cup, Aleksandersson played the role of an Icelandic coach, analyzing the game of the rivals of the Scandinavians. Under his leadership, Iceland's women's team reached the final tournament of the 2017 European Championship.
