Someone is born as a coach, but someone becomes.

To me, in truth, they never wanted to become. I watched other coaches, and I never had a desire to do what they do. This desire came to me later.

Having hung the boots on the nail, I became the administrator of the team in Roma. I've been doing this for a year, but this post did not bring me pleasure. All this was somehow wrong, so I left.

After that, I stopped even thinking about football. I got away from the game. I did not even follow the results.

After some time I tried myself as a consultant. For six months I was a transfer adviser in a small club Val di Sangro. But this did not please me either..

Gradually I began to miss the smell of the lawn. I began to miss those feelings that you experience in the locker room. Coaching returned me to these feelings.

In Italy, we used to pay more attention to the defensive side of the game than the attacking. We are working hard on tactics. We have many qualified trainers and we leave nothing to chance.

When I was a player, I was influenced by many coaches, under the guidance of which I played. Marcello Lippi, at the beginning of my career in Lucca. Later, in Rome, Fabio Capello.

I will not list them all, but I took something from each of them. Positive and negative. One of them showed me what to do. Others - what not to do.

Now, already being a coach, I watch with great respect Pep Guardiola.

It's easy to say, right? But I like his view of football. I like his idea of ??always attacking an opponent.

I do not like sterile possession. I do not want to sit out and entice an opponent. I want to press and attack him.

But the biggest influence in terms of game style on me was Zdenek Zeman.

Zdenek was an innovator. His teams were very attacking. They were well prepared and tried to score one goal more than the opponent.

Usually I do not like repeating or copying someone's work. But from him I learned a lot about the attacking side of the game and still make great use of it.

My philosophy is to dominate the game.

Obviously, this is not always possible. Before heading up to Roma, I coached Sassuolo. But even when we played against much stronger teams, we always tried to play our football.

I do not like sterile possession. Owning just for the sake of possession. I do not want to sit out and entice an opponent. I want to press and attack him. It's not always possible, but it's my idea..

Football has become better since I was a player.

From a technical point of view, the game progresses. It's faster. The goalkeeper no longer so often takes the ball in his hands. The ball spends more time in the game, and the game becomes more beautiful.

De Rossi can become a successful coach. He has the character, experience, knowledge We are all capable of analyzing and studying records. But the difference is made by those who successfully implement their own ideas.

As I said, watching and trying to repeat for someone, it's not the same as being a coach who invent something and successfully passes it on to the players.

For this reason, I think there will always be something new in football. There will always be someone who has his own style, which he will successfully transfer to the players.

Now I'm looking at my squad in Roma, and I think that Daniel De Rossi has a chance to become a successful coach. He has the character, experience, knowledge. He worked under the guidance of various trainers. I hope in the future I will become one of those who influenced him.

Football is not a science. But I believe that science can make football better.

Statistics is a useful thing. It can give important clues or directions in preparation for the game, or when you want to improve your weaknesses.

If I see statistics that show that my team is not giving enough vertical gear, I will try to correct this shortcoming in training, because I'm a coach who prefers to play in a vertical pass.

To win trophies, you need a strong team spirit. You need to be strong personalities, and only then strong players.

In a club like Roma, it is very important to know the ambience - the environment or the situation in the club. It's hard to get used to it, but the fact that I settled in it as a player was a great advantage for me.

But the position of coach is quite another matter. This is a more responsible job and here ambente should never be an excuse. We must accept that here you have a different attitude on the part of the media and the problems also need to be addressed in a different way. Fans here are very passionate and they have a great desire to win, which only grows.

At times this desire is greater than you can imagine. But the ability to train Roma is a great honor, because for this you need to do a really good and balanced work.

The last time Roma won Serie A in 2001 and I was part of that team. For this we needed both skill and luck. President Shensi invested a lot of money, and we had a very good team.

At the same time, to win trophies, you need a strong team spirit. First of all, they were strong personalities, and only then strong players.

People talk about the mentality of the winners, as if it's so easy to acquire. But first you need to create the appropriate environment, lay the foundation on which they become winners.

It takes time. It is necessary that people have time to work and build. In football, people often want everything at once, but with this approach the team, coach or club will not progress.

I hope, here we will have such an opportunity. We must work and try to achieve our goals, while without underestimating something. Even the smallest details.

Details make a difference. This applies to all.

Even the one who cuts the lawn.
